Frequently Asked Questions.
What is floral preservation?
Flower Preservation is a process of preserving flowers through a unique technique of drying them and casting them in resin.
How do I get my flowers to you?
If you are within 10 miles of San Diego, CA, I can pick up your flowers from your reception or meet with you the day following your wedding for a $100 fee. Alternatively, you can drop them off to me free of charge.
For those who are not local, you will need to ship your flowers to me via UPS overnight. UPS is the recommended carrier due to their consistent on-time delivery. Once your deposit has been received, you will receive detailed instructions on how to package your bouquet.
When do you need my flowers?
Time is of the essence! It’s best to ship them out as soon as possible after your event. Drop-off or overnight shipping is essential, as the quality of the flowers declines considerably on the second day. If overnight shipping isn’t an option, there are other options to consider, such as drying your flowers yourself and shipping them out once dried. Please reach out to discuss these alternative options. Keep in mind that flowers dry best when they’re fresh and healthy, so the sooner they’re shipped out, the better the results.
When determining the shipping costs for your bouquet, there are a few key considerations to keep in mind. Firstly, there is the cost of shipping the bouquet to my location, which includes the expense of supplies and materials necessary for proper packaging. However, these costs are relatively low because most people already have the necessary items at home. Additionally, there is the actual cost of shipping the flowers themselves. Since flowers are delicate and perishable, it’s essential to ship them overnight to my location in Northern Michigan. The faster the flowers arrive and the more carefully they are packed, the better condition they will be in for me to work with. Unfortunately, I cannot provide an estimate for the cost of shipping the flowers as it depends on factors such as the carrier you choose and the weight and size of your bouquet. Nonetheless, your florist can provide an approximate estimate for the final size and weight of your bouquet, which you can then use to request quotes from different carriers. Finally, there is the cost of shipping the finished product back to you.
Do you work with previously dried flowers?
Yes! Not only does resin cast floral preservation create a beautiful display from these precious blooms, it also protects them from further damage and dust.
Please note that I won’t be able to accept flowers that have mold or moisture. If you’re uncertain whether I can work with them, feel free to send me photos at vanessamiraclexoxo@gmail.com. It’s important to understand that Miracle in Bloom is not responsible for any mold, rotting, dust or hair that may be present in the flowers and not visible to me.
Any tips on pre-shipping care?
YES! Pre-shipment care can go a LONG way.
1. While it’s natural for your florals to get moved around and used, try to avoid touching the petals. The oil from our hands can transfer onto the petals causing bruising.
2. If you plan to have a bouquet toss at your wedding, consider using an artificial or mini bouquet instead. Although some petal bruising is unavoidable and can add character, handle the flowers gently to reduce the chances of bruising.
3. Keep the stems in water throughout the day when your bouquet is not in use and until it’s time to ship them. DO NOT REFRIGERATE.
4. There is a difference in your floral condition when you “kind of” follow the directions and you truly follow them. This is a beautiful investment, taking the time to properly package your bouquet is a must.
Is every flower in my bouquet used in the keepsakes?
It really depend on a few factors such as the size of your order, how full you would like your design to be, and the condition of your flowers. The best flowers are always chosen and used for your statement piece first. If you want to maximize the potential of your flowers, I recommend opting for a larger resin piece. Please note that any extra florals remaining are not shipped back.
Will my flowers look the exact same?
When flowers are dried and preserved, the moisture is removed from the petals and varying changes can occur. The appearance of your flowers also alter if you’d like your flowers pressed. Below are a few (but not all) changes that can happen:
*Red or deep-colored roses may darken
*White flowers may take on an off-white or yellowish hue (even with color correction, they will not be bright white)
*”Bruising” or “translucent spots” may appear. To minimize this, avoid handling, touching or throwing your flowers.
*Some tropical flowers or greenery may not survive the drying process or may turn brown.
How do I care for my keepsakes?
Caring for your preservation is essential to maintain their quality and longevity. Follow these simple steps to keep your preserved flowers looking their best:
- Polish Your Preservation once every 3-6 months to maintain the condition and shine.
- Handle your art pieces with care and avoid rough handling.
- Display your art pieces out of direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
- To clean and dust, use a lint-free microfiber cloth or a little warm soapy water.
- Avoid using Windex or any harsh cleaning agents on your art pieces.
What is the process like for a floral block?
Our process for resin pieces are very similar to our framed pressed pieces, in terms of timing. The process in how they’re dried is different. Once we receive your flowers, they are preserved for 2-3 months. Once completely dry, we will reach out to you to go over your design selections, and that’s when the fun begins! Our turnaround for every project we receive is about 6 months, depending on the wedding season.
Will my resin piece amber over time?
Unfortunately, all epoxy will gradually yellow to a degree overtime; however, our resin has UV inhibitors in them that will delay that change.
We recommend not displaying them in direct sunlight.
Do you have different layout options?
Yes! We want to be able to design your keepsakes with you! We will discuss all the design options with you during your consultation.
Can I apply to be a part of the team or work as a contractor?
